  • Strand Theatre 210 Main Street Hudson Falls, NY, 12839 (map)

$15 general, $10 seniors, $5 students

World on a String is a band I've led for many years now, with some fantastic musicians that bring the music to the highest level -  Leo Traversa on bass and Vanderlei Pereira playing drums. Vandelei brings in a deep knowledge of Brazilian and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Leo is a veteran player of these styles as well as much African music. The repertoire features my original compositions and arrangements, using this core of great players/improvisers to perform music that fuses the jazz tradition with Brazilian & Latin and beyond. It's my own version of world music, but all with a swinging, grooving foundation.

Paul Meyers (Guitar) - Paul Meyers has performed and/or recorded with an ever growing list of jazz greats such as Geri Allen, Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Ray Drummond, Eliane Elias, Clare Fischer, Sonny Fortune, Eddie Gomez, Annie Ross, Marc Johnson, Wynton Marsalis, George Mraz, Rufus Reid, David Sanchez and Kenny Werner. He's also toured for years with two of the greatest jazz singers ever - Jon Hendricks since 1993, and Andy Bey from 1997 to 2008. "A virtuoso guitarist  and improviser [who brings] his own voice to each and every melody and solo he performs.... his lines are delivered with a hard driving sense of groove that only helps to accentuate his melodic and harmonic vocabulary." (Matthew Warnock, Just Jazz Guitar)

Special Guest, Hudson Falls native, jazz piano virtuoso Ted Firth

Leo Traversa (Electric Bass) - Highly proficient and versatile, and an incredibly supportive bass player. The European press has called him "perfect in technique and brilliant in providing instrumental background" and "master of the 5-string bass", He has performed and recorded with a wide range of internationally known artists including Tania Maria, Eliane Elias, both Randy and Michael Brecker, Milton Nascimento and many others.

Vanderlei Pereira (Drums & Percussion) - This master musician combines a prodigious knowledge of Brazilian and Afro-Cuban rhythms with impeccable technique and a distinctive touch.magazine said "Pereira's . . . interpretation of Zydeco-like baião, the martial ciranda and more syncopated maracatú, and the driving, straight-ahead xote, offers glimpses of the richness of Brazil beyond Bossa, and demonstrate some great rhythmic ideas..."  Modern Drummer . He brings a unique palette to all the music he's involved in, keeping him in high demand. He has appeared and recorded with Toots Thielemans, Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Tito Puente and Claudio Roditi and many more
