Formed in Albany, the capital of New York, Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets have been making music together since the early 1990s. The band consists of a talented group of musicians who share a deep passion for reggae and its positive, transformative power.

The band's music serves as a vehicle for spreading messages of peace, unity, and spiritual awakening, and their performances are known for their infectious energy and uplifting vibes. While rooted in reggae, Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets incorporate a diverse range of musical influences into their sound. Drawing inspiration from genres such as jamband music, psychedelic music, and ska, they create a fusion that is uniquely their own. Their ability to seamlessly blend different styles and rhythms keeps their music fresh and exciting, attracting a wide range of listeners.

With their dedication to creating an immersive live experience, Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets continually push boundaries and experiment with their performances. No two shows are ever the same, as the band loves to improvise and feed off the energy of the crowd. Their concerts are a celebration of love, freedom, and connection, where people come together to dance, sing, and feel the positive vibrations.

Throughout their career, Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets have remained true to their values and used their platform to advocate for change. They are not only entertainers but also activists, using their music as a tool to raise awareness and challenge the status quo. Their commitment to speaking truth to power has earned them a reputation as a band that stands up for what they believe in.

Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets have left an indelible mark on the Albany reggae scene and beyond. Their timeless music, infectious energy, and unwavering dedication to spreading love and positivity have made them beloved by fans far and wide. Whether on stage or in the studio, they continue to create music that resonates deeply with listeners, reminding us all of the power of music to inspire, heal, and unite.

Under the leadership of the drummer, George, Mixed Roots is a rare breed of bands. All are from different areas, and now call Albany, New York home. Brian, Irishman and bassist, plays with multiple upstate New York reggae groups as well as Mixed Roots. Calling on his expertise from these, he offers flavors from the Grateful Dead and others. Pete, our guitarist and also an Irishman, plays with passion and expertise with decades of practice and performing reggae and rock and all places in between. The horn section—featuring (at times) two trombones, Dave and Catherine, and Scott, the sax man—consider themselves local also. They bring fire to the band with their playing.
George, the lead drummer and vocalist, grew up in Accra, Ghana, where he learned and practiced traditional African beats. He shares his vocabulary of AfroBeat and reggae with Mixed Roots.

Together, this band plays with energy emerging from their mixed roots. They are prepared and excited to share their styles with you!
